Peter joined Russells in January 2018, and advises on all matters relating to technology, data management and copyright licensing. He is also an expert on collective licensing and has worked extensively on policy, governance and regulatory matters in the sector. Peter has been extensively involved in music industry data management projects, including the multi-territory VRDB repertoire database.
After qualifying as a solicitor in 2007, Peter worked for intellectual property specialist law firm Briffa, advising small and medium sized businesses in the creative and entertainment industries. In 2011, Peter joined PPL, the UK collective management organisation for rights in sound recordings. Amongst a very broad range of work at PPL, Peter negotiated licences with broadcasters and online music and TV services, as well as bespoke agency and representation agreements, and managed relationships with record companies and performers. Peter also sat on a number of industry boards and committees.
