Jo graduated with a Law degree from UCL in 2004. He joined Russells in 2006 as a trainee solicitor and qualified into the firm’s Commercial Department two years later. In 2013, Jo gained partnership and now runs the firm’s New Artist Department.
Whilst Jo works on a range of music-related matters (e.g. recording, publishing, merchandise, branding and management agreements) his primary expertise lies in advising emerging talent. As a self-confessed “music obsessive” and keen musician/occasional DJ, Jo feels at ease interacting with creative individuals and his enthusiasm for music in its many forms gives him great drive and passion for his work.
With a range of contacts in different areas of the music industry, Jo is equipped to offer practical and strategic guidance to unsigned artists, song-writers and producers/mixers just starting out in the business. He is immensely proud to have been through this process from “day one” with clients who have then gone on to win coveted Mercury, Brit, Grammy and Ivor Novello Awards in recognition of their talent.
“ [Music] is not like the cinema where nearly everybody sees the same thing. I think the optical is much more fixed but when you have music you have so many different sorts of musics in the brains of the people.”
– Florian Schneider, Kraftwerk
